White Bay Power Station

White Bay Power Station

White Bay Power Station, located in Rozelle, is one of Sydney's last remaining infrastructures from its harbour-side industrial past. Built between 1912-17 the power station supplied power to Sydney's growing public transportation sector and operated for sixty-seven years. In 2006 the site was included on the NSW heritage list, with the site now waiting preposed redevelopment.

Field Recording Archive

The field recorded materials presented below contain the original, un-edited audio collected while exploring the White Bay Power Station facility. The binaural audio files are down loadable at 24bit/96khz. The Ambience and impulse response files are four-channel (first order)ambisonic files, downloadable at 24bit/96khz.

This recording is a binaurally captured field recording. This method informs the sonic narritive as I move through and explore each location of the White bay Power Station.

Ambisonic ambient recording captured within the ground floor of the first main warehouse. The room contains exposed iron roofing and support beams with plastic screens shielding a number of contaminated room that are off limits.

Ambisonic Ambient recording captured within the second main room. There is a lot of wood flooring covering missing sections of the buildings original design.

This recording is taken from the second story of the first main warehouse area. The space is open to the elements and the wind is moving through the space mixing with the sound of the traffic. Its a harsh sonic environment on this day.
